RTC's Upcoming Technology

Ringgold Telephone Company is excited to introduce many upcoming technology offers. Each service, available in the near future, will allow us to better serve our community. It is our hope that these service advances will enhance the daily lives of our customers.

DVR

Ringgold Telephone Company is now offering DVR, Digital Video Recorder, services. This device will record video, without the use of a DVD or a videotape, and save it to a digital storage medium. This will allow customers to watch a program while recording another program. RTC plans to test DVR service with friendly customers as soon as possible. This product will likely be offered as part of the new service relaunch.

Fiber to the Home

Fiber optic cables are now replacing traditional copper as a means of communication signal transmission. RTC has made a commitment to put fiber optic cabling in all of its new developments. This change will bring additional services and more bandwidth to customers. Fiber optics uses light pulses to send out information through fiber lines, versus copper cables that use electronic pulses to transmit information. There are several benefits of implementing this new technology. Fiber optic cables operate at higher speeds, transmit signals at a greater distance, have superior resistance and have a much larger carrying capacity than copper cables. For example, two fiber strands smaller than a human hair can carry enough bandwidth to supply all of Ringgold's voice and data needs. Video Encryption

RTC is working to bring video encryption services to our customers. Video encryption is an electronic scrambling method that secures video and audio portions of television programming. This technique prevents unwated interception and viewing of transmitted video. When programming is encrypted, only the customer that it is intended for can view the content. This technological advance will lead to a larger library of movie and programming choices for our customers.
